The Amazon Rainforest - Background Information
The Amazon Rainforest, also known as the
"Lungs of the Earth" is the largest tropical rainforest covering
2.1 million square miles of the Basin, which happens to be 2.7 square miles.
In South America, nine nations that are bordered by the Amazon Rainforest are, Bolivia, Brazil, French Guiana, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Suriname, Ecuador, and Guyana.
Within the Amazon, there is the Amazon river which is the second longest river, and it drains as much land as the United States.

Even though this beautiful rainforest is here on our Earth, there is much harm being caused to it, with 20% of the rainforest already destroyed. The reason being, is because us, humans, need more land for cattle, agriculture, mining and logging. Most of the trees that are being cut down are being burned for charcoal. We may need these things, but many of us do not notice the harm we are causing to the "green lung" we have that provides 20% of the world's oxygen, and we are destroying it with our own hands.
